Standard Training
Pacom runs a series of standard training courses for our end customers and VARs. We also develop customized training courses upon request.
Here you can review our current course offerings, our current training schedule and register online. As a Pacom VAR, you can access all training documentation which is located in the secure section of this site.

Installer Certification
This training program is based upon four field technician program modules (in order):
Introductory Technical Training
This module introduces Pacom's comprehensive line of security solutions, including Pacom configuration software - GMS. It is intended for technicians who will be installing, configuring and maintaining these solutions.
To best benefit from the training, a basic understanding of security installations, using computer applications and computer networks as well as good wiring skills are an advantage.
The training is broken into:
- Pacom Security Solutions
We look at various security environments and how Pacom offers solutions to them, and discuss Pacom security products that can be deployed in these environments. Products covered include Pacom Controllers, expandable input/output controllers and mezzanine cards, card reader interfaces and keypads. For each product, we will look at the PCB, different configurable parts (links and switches), interpreting status indicators and connecting devices.
- Install and Configure GMS Config
An introduction to the GMS Config application (which is free for registered users), its installation and functionality. Technicians use GMS Config for configuring Pacom products.
- Configure Pacom Security Solutions
Central to the Pacom security solution is the Controller. It manages peripheral devices and communications, interprets alarm situations, can control recording and transmission of site CCTV footage and manages access control. In addition, it stores the configuration data for the solution. The module covers how to set up a Controller and configure it and its attached peripherals.
Advanced Technical Training
This training carries on from the Technician - Introductory Technical training course. In this course you will have the opportunity to further use and familiarize yourself with Pacom GMS software and to configure a typical security solution. You will run through a range of tasks detailing Controller, alarm area and access control configuration.
To best benefit from this training, an existing knowledge of GMS menus and dialog boxes and an understanding of security industry terminology are an advantage.
The training is broken into:
- Area Configuration
Pacom GMS offers a range of options and parameters to customize an alarm area. This module covers these options and their functions. You will learn how GMS makes it easy to configure an area, while keeping it highly customizable to meet specific requirements.
- Controller Settings
Additional Controller settings are covered in this module. These settings offer customizable parameters and explain why you may need to use them.
- Access Control Configuration
This module covers the range of access control options offered in GMS. It also includes topics on elevators and configuration.
GMS Configuration Training
GMS is the focus of this module. We begin by installing a comprehensive GMS server and workstation setup, then a look at the different application modules in GMS, such as the Card Access Manager, Events Manager and Transaction Manager. Also covered is configuring communications between GMS and third-party DVRs. Towards the end we look at maintaining a working GMS.
The training is broken into:
- GMS Installation
Installing and configuring GMS including: GMS setup types (server and workstation); software and hardware requirements; GMS server and its database installation; GMS workstation installation; sub-servers and how they fit into Pacom solutions; how a GMS installation works and communicates
- Initiating GMS
Using the GMS server/workstation example configuration, we revisit steps for connecting Controllers to the GMS server so that monitoring information can be received by GMS. A security solution uses monitoring devices, such as input points, output points and card readers, to communicate with a Pacom Controller, which then relays information to the monitoring GMS server.
- Using GMS
This module covers the main application modules of GMS. For each module, a synopsis of features is provided, then a look in to how to use them to configure the system as per monitoring and security requirements.
- Interacting with DVRs
This module looks at how to integrate GMS with third-party DVR applications. Pacom GMS is able to integrate a range of popular security digital video recorder (DVR) devices and network video recording (NVR) software (which uses a separate server and associated software to communicate with DVRs). This means that from GMS you can not only manage and monitor access control and alarms systems, but also directly control cameras and work with recorded video.
- Maintaining GMS Installations
Backing up and restoring GMS data is the key maintenance aspect addressed in this module. A reliable working GMS is critical for monitoring security. This fact makes backing up GMS on regular intervals highly recommended and can also hasten recovery from crashes/disk failures.
- Running Diagnostics
How to remotely detect problems in a security solution.
Base Station Training
In a Pacom solution, the back-end processing hardware to large numbers of remote sites are known as a Base Stations and TransITs. TransITs are suited to smaller numbers of sites, with less processing requirements. Base Stations are suited to larger systems with heavier processing requirements.
This training module is intended for technicians who have experience with Pacom security solutions and GMS. An understanding of computer networks will be an advantage. Completing Introductory Technical Training is recommended if you don't have working knowledge of GMS.
The training is broken into:
- TransIT
A look at different installation solutions with a TransIT. Also, steps to install a TransIT unit and configure it using GMS. Configuration includes communicating over Ethernet and PSTN networks and procedures for managing Controller accounts on the unit.
- Base Station
Extends the concepts learnt in the TransIT module to a larger system, with higher processing and redundancy capabilities. Base Stations include CPU and CCU cards and its own power supply unit. We look at different Base Station installation scenarios and then at installation and configuration. Configuration includes connecting to monitoring centers, communication over Ethernet and PSTN networks, communication to redundant/remote/backup setups.
System Administration Certification
This training program is based upon four operator program modules (in order):
Introductory Operator Training
Pacom provides solutions that integrate access control, security and building automation into a single, remotely-accessible system. The system offers unrivalled system integrity and redundancy, with technologies that deliver uninterrupted system operation, intelligent self-testing, multiple backup and remote disaster recovery options. Open architecture and intelligent modular design provide the flexibility to integrate with practically all existing systems.
This training module provides an overview of the Pacom solution, including how it works with different sized customer networks and its requirements. It introduces Pacom GMS software and how it integrates configuration and monitoring capabilities, with a brief look at its different application modules and how to use them. Specifically, we look remote site monitoring.
The training is intended for two audience groups. Firstly, security deployers requiring an introduction to Pacom solutions and an understanding of how these solutions may integrate with existing systems. Secondly, security operators who will use GMS for monitoring. This is the first step in the GMS Operator training program. Pacom offers multiple levels of operator training. For further information, visit the Pacom website.
To best benefit from this training, an understanding of using computer software applications and computer networks is an advantage.
The training is broken into:
- Pacom Solutions
A look at various site setups and how Pacom offers security solutions for each.
- Pacom GMS
Discusses the major GMS application modules (mainly alarm monitoring and access control).
- Using the Summary Manager
A look at remote site monitoring, including GMS graphical site representations and security device layouts and how these devices can be controlled from a GMS operator's desktop.
GMS Operator Training - Event Response Training
This training is intended for operators managing card access systems, with the main focus on adding and controlling cardholders within the system. To best benefit from the training, operators should be aware of common security industry jargon and typical installations.
The training is broken into:
- Summary Manager
A look at remote site monitoring, including GMS graphical site representations and security device layouts and how these devices can be controlled from a GMS operator's desktop.
- Alarm Response Operations
Learn about tasks involving alarm monitoring. Topics covered include responding to alarms and generating reports.
GMS Operator Training - Access Management Training
This training is intended for GMS operators managing remote site access control from a security monitoring center. Operators should be familiar with common security industry jargon and general security practises.
The training is broken into:
- Summary Manager
A look at remote site monitoring, including GMS graphical site representations and security device layouts and how these devices can be controlled from a GMS operator's desktop.
- Card Access Manager
Use GMS to use design and create access cards, authorize access, card management tasks and generating reports.
- Card Transaction Manager
Use GMS to review access transactions and generate reports.
